The Fleadh Cheoil (festival of music) is one of the oldest music festivals in Ireland. It dates back to 1951 when its debut was organised by Comhaltas Ceoiltoiri Eireann.
The festival has grown over the years to become one of the biggest in Ireland, even though it’s not necessarily as well publicised as the likes of Electric Picnic. For the 2012 event in Cavan there are expected to be over 250,000 attendees and more than 20,000 musicians competing.
This is very much about traditional Irish music, dancing and singing with competitions ranging from fiddle and accordion, to traditional singing in Irish and whistling.
